AC SURGE PROTECTION
Joslyn® Surgitron® surge protectors for AC power circuits are designed for installation at main service entrance, distribution panels and subpanels. These products protect facilities and equipment from damage due to external transients and surge caused by lightning, induction, switching surges and, to some degree, EMPs. The Surgitron line is particularly effective in preventing damage to solid-state electronic equipment.
From the central office, hut/shelter, subpanels and power pedestals to transfer switches, cabinets and other telecommunications installations, Surgitron products provide enterprise-wide protection. These versatile products also safeguard commercial, industrial, educational and other types of facilities with zero tolerance for electrical and electronic system downtime or degradation.
The models are hard-wired surge protectors designed to limit surge voltages by discharging or bypassing the surge current to ground. They provide the primary protection at the service entrance where lightning currents must be shunted to ground and at subpanels where internally generated surges must be clamped.
Beware of relying on any single source for complete protection against surges and spikes. Plug-in strips protect only equipment actually plugged in to that strip and can themselves be damaged by surges.

SURGITRON I
SURGITRON I models offer primary protection against multiple lightning strikes or other induced voltage surges.
Surge current capability greatly exceeds the heaviest surge described by ANSI/IEEE C62.41-1991 (Location category C3).
A long surge life keeps your power protection in place without the need for expensive silicon avalanche diodes (SADs). Surgitron I withstands surge amplitudes that would destroy a silicon avalanche diode unit.

SURGITRON II
These medium duty protectors can be used for a service entry in a highly active lightning surge environment or at feeder panels where absolute protection must be guaranteed against external or internally generated surges.
Each phase section is rated for 50-100kA peak surge current and is designed to operate in 50 Hz or 60 Hz systems.
This protector is typically mounted at the main service disconnect switch and connected directly across the mains. To facilitate attachment, it may be connected behind a 60 amp breaker or fuseless disconnect.

SURGITRON III
Use these economic medium-duty protectors at the service entrance in a moderate lightning surge environment or at subpanels and for dedicated equipment to provide secondary protection from external or internal generated surges. These protectors are housed in a NEMA 6, I.P. 67 GE Norl plastic housing. Each phase section is rated at 40 kA peak surge current and is designed to operate in 50 Hz or 60 Hz systems.
These protectors are typically mounted at the breaker panel through a “knock out” where it can be electrically connected directly across the mains behind a 30 amp breaker. Proper functioning of each phase is indicated by individual weather-proof LED indicators.
Joslyn pigtail protectors, such as this 1265-21, are available without relays.

SUREGEBAN
Modular, fail-safe surge suppression prevents system downtime and damage to telecommunications equipment
New from the leader in telecommunications surge protection, Joslyn SurgeBan prevents costly equipment damage, data corruption and downtime caused by electrical transients. It is the industry’s first and only suppression system with fail-safe modules. SurgeBan’s innovative, modular design makes it the most versatile and convenient surge protection for telecommunications applications.
Only SurgeBan meets the telecommunications industry’s requirement for truly fail-safe protection. An individual thermal cut-off on each metal oxide varistor (MOV) protects against temporary overvoltage conditions and ensures clean end-of-life performance. During a sustained overvoltage event, SurgeBan goes off-line to deliver fail-safe performance.
SurgeBan is life-cycle tested with 2,500 surges at 20kV and 10kA and single-pulse surge current tested with less than 10 percent deviation in let-through voltage. Other features include:
- Form C dry contacts to monitor remote or unattended sites
- Smallest footprint available in an enclosed suppressor
- Compact NEMA 4X enclosure
- More than 300 standard configurations
- Explosion-resistant modules
- Color-coded modules for easy installation using only a screwdriver
- Module status monitor and self-positioning, intermodule monitoring connections
Up to seven modes of protection are available with a choice of four suppression technology combinations: MOV, MOV/Filter hybrid, MOV/silicon avalanche diode (SAD) hybrid and MOV/SAD/Filter hybrid. Models are available in 50kA to 400kA per phase surge current capacity in these power configurations: single-phase and split-phase; 3-Phase WYE; and 3-Phase DELTA.
SurgeBan’s standard 10-year warranty can be extended to 15 years. SurgeBan fully meets the following standards: NEMA LS-1 2.2.9; Telcordia (Bellcore); UL 1449 Listed, 2nd Edition; cUL; CE low voltage; and EMC directives.
